Eek! I love Fugly lamps!!!!

So you ask….what does fugly mean!?  Well, it is one of my silly words that I have created.  It basically means fun + ugly = Fugly!!!  I have secretly had a thing for ugly lamps but didn’t really say it out loud to people.  I remember this one hanging lamp I just HAD to have years ago that was covered in orange crushed velvet.  My Mom was like, “Oh no, Whitney!”  Haha!  At the time during one of my “stages”, which was Bohemian, it fit perfectly.  But, as time went by and my taste changed, I wanted to restyle it.  It has been the same for several years now and is happily hanging in my shabby guest bedroom.  It may be a little much for some of you, but I love it!

I found this antique/used furniture store here in Seymour that had an amazingly ugly lamp.  It kept speaking to me and when I saw the article in the Flea Market Style magazine talking about ugly lamps I was so excited.  My Mom and I get all the same magazines and we at times talk over the phone looking through them together.  I told her that there was this article that I just loved and was so excited about.  So, I told her to guess like I usually do (and she doesn’t really like it).  She went all over the magazine and never guessed it so when I told her what I was drooling all over she said, “Oh dear, Whitney!”  Haha!!!  I did finally get the lamp a few weeks ago.  It isn’t ready yet for use because being an older lamp it must be rewired.  I have some old lamp shades that I plan to use but with just the frame part.  I love the look but again that is just me.  🙂

My dearest Whitney… I am so glad that you have posted this. I must say that you made a very wise purchase, with my insistance that you do so of course. Aren’t you glad that you listened to me this time? It is an awesome lamp, and I rather like the shade frame with it. It is a wonderful thing that even though we are miles apart, we are able to share our love of “fugly” things via the internet. Gotta love technology for this one reason. Ha! Ha! Love ya, Mom
