Trinity’s Room – Before & After

Here are the before photos for Trinity’s room and I have to warn you they are TERRIBLE.  When we took them we were frantically looking for a house before we made our move from Indiana back to Texas almost three years ago.  There was so much to be done to the home we chose but little by little it has gotten so much better and a place we love to be.

Now….Trinity’s finished nursery!  Trinity’s room was the very first room to be completely finished so it is only fitting that I share her room first.  I don’t know if we will ever be able to paint it another color (Benjamin Moore paint of course!) because that was one of the things that Eric’s late father, Carl, did with pride because he was so excited he was getting a granddaughter.  The wood flooring in this room was Eric’s start to what was to come.  We are thankful to my father, Tim, for showing him how to do it.  I have always loved the look of wide plank wood flooring and one of the reasons is because my parents had it in our house growing up.  Our dear friends, Chad and Vanessa, came one weekend to help us and this was one room Vanessa and I worked in together.  We painted the closet and bookshelf/desk area together and had a great time doing it.  Thank God for good friends!!

If you can’t tell below, my personal taste is very eclectic and that was just the natural direction I went while putting together Trinity’s room.  I found an image on Pinterest one day of the aqua color and fell in love.  That was my first decision and the rest just kind of flowed.  I was originally going to use the baby bed my mom had for me and my brothers when we were babies but we ultimately decided to get a new one but I must say they are both the same style…a Jenny Lind bed.  I had many of the items use in Trinity’s room already and then my mom and I hunted for more decor at antique shops, junk shows and the Country Living Fair that was held in Austin in 2012.  The dresser/changing table was a steal Eric and I found in Indiana before we moved for $70.  The light green armoire was a piece my mother bought for Trinity and I thought at first I would paint it but there was just something about that peeling green paint so I left it just as it was.  The yellow damask chair in all its retro glory was my infamous dumpster find.  I kid you not!  It was also a piece that was just waiting for me to find it.  Eric was like NO WAY but I convinced him to let me try to save it and looky there!  I had it recovered by a man in my hometown who also gave a facelift to its broken down inner support.  The little desk was a $10 Indiana find while the little desk chair was another item my mom found.  The ice cream parlor chair was mine growing up and has seen many colors before it stayed pink.  At some point in my life, I thought it would be good to embellish it a little….ick!  What was I thinking but when I stepped back and looked at it I decided to leave it alone so I could teach Trinity one day to never do this.  Haha!  Not really.  I just thought it would be neat for her to have something that I once used.  Trinity’s chandelier, which I LOVE, was given to her by my mom.  When my parents moved from the house I grew up in a few years ago, she wasn’t sure what would end up happening to the house so she took it down and brought it to me for Trinity’s room.  It originally just had the clear prisms but she added the touch of green for me from her little find she made several years prior.  My very talented grandmother whom I call Mima made Trinity’s curtains for me from the yellow ticking that I had to have.  I have a thing with ticking as you will later see in Owen’s room.  There are also a few things from our wedding that I used in her room and one of those items is the plate that can be seen hanging on the wall in the first photo below.  That plate inspired me with all the colors that I used in my wedding…which were quite a few.  🙂  I also hung up the chalkboard sign that had our guests vote for the name of our first child.  It must be said that no one chose Trinity or Harlowe.  🙂  The rug I chose for Trinity was the one thing that took me forever to find.  I just could never find “the one” and it drove me nuts.  I looked all over the place and long behold I came across it on One Kings Lane.  I didn’t think twice on the purchase because I fell in love with it.  It is one of my favorite things of the many I have in my baby girl’s room.

Her big girl bed transition can be seen towards the bottom.  🙂

Of course Trinity is now in a big girl bed since baby brother has the crib in his room now.  It was hard the day we moved the crib out and the big bed in.  I wasn’t quite ready but ready all in the same.

I had looked for a fun bed for Trinity to use but I ultimately went for the frame and headboard that I already had because my dad made it for me while I was still in college and is very special to me.  It was one of his first that he created from wrought iron.  You will recognize some of the bedding that I used in the photos below a little later in our guest room (now Owen’s room) because some of the below pieces were gifts to me from my parents when I graduated from TTU.  I wanted custom bedding and that’s what they got me.  🙂  I have always loved it so why not use in Trinity’s room?  Now, I didn’t use everything because I wanted some things to be just for Trinity.  The quilt and matching sham, pale pink duvet cover, fuchsia chenille sham and fuchsia gingham shams are all Pine Cone Hill.  The bedskirt and double boudoir sham are custom pieces from Mary Cates and Co. in Dallas.  The paisley sham is from the Chandler Collection.  The crinkly, white throw is an Ikea item while the green quilt is from Stein Mart.  The purple ruffle throw pillow came from Target and the bike throw pillow came from Home Goods.  The sheets I used are Shabby Chic while the yellow and purple chenille shams, white eyelets shams and additional pillowcases are all vintage finds.  The fun quilt at the end of the bed was made for Trinity by Lyn Lancaster who owns Classic Interiors in Snyder.  🙂  I hope you have enjoyed the first little glimpse into my home.  More to come later…I promise!
